Madeira is situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Whales and Dolphins are regularly present. Regular boat trips leave from Calheta Marina enabling holiday makers to view the vast range of aquatic species visiting the waters around the island.

Calheta Beach offers safe swimming in a sheltered site. If you wish to go further afield there are many Lidos around the island, in particular at Funchal and Porto Moniz
There is an aquarium at Porto Moniz which has an interesting collection of fish and other sea creatures more

There are two excellent golf courses on Madeira including the championship golf course at Santo da Serra further info and Palheiro further info. Ponto do Pargo golf course is under constrution in the district of Calheta.
